The George Mason Patriots will play their first game since New Year's Day when they take on the George Washington Colonials in an Atlantic 10 Conference matchup on Monday afternoon. The Patriots (7-6, 0-0), who are opening their conference slate after having four games postponed due to COVID-19 health and safety protocols, last played at sixth-ranked Kansas on Jan. 1, losing 76-67. The Colonials (4-10, 0-2), who have lost two in a row, also had four games in a row postponed due to COVID-19, prior to the loss at Dayton on Jan. 8. George Mason swept both games last season, including a 73-59 decision in the Atlantic 10 Conference Tournament on March 4.

The Patriots have a solid core on offense, led by junior forward Josh Oduro. Oduro is averaging a team-high 17 points per game to go along with 6.5 rebounds, 1.5 blocks and 1.2 assists. He was 4-for-8 from the floor for 12 points in 24 minutes at Kansas. He has had 12 or more points in 11 of 13 games, and is second in the Atlantic 10 in field-goal percentage (59 percent) and third in points. He has registered a pair of double-doubles and scored a season-high 32 points in a 71-65 win over Navy on Dec. 7.

Senior transfer guard D'Shawn Schwartz, who played his first four years at Colorado, is averaging 14.6 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game. George Mason is 6-2 when he scores 10 or more points. He is fifth in the Atlantic 10 Conference in 3-point percentage at 37.1 percent, and is sixth in 3-pointers made. In the game at Kansas, Schwartz scored 15 points and dished out a career-high five assists. In three games against Power 5 competition this year, he averaged 20 points and shot 52.5 percent from the floor.

The Colonials are led in scoring by junior guard James Bishop, who has scored in double figures in three straight games, including a 16-point effort at VCU on Tuesday. He leads the team with a 15.6 points-per-game average and is hitting on 38.7 percent of his field goals. He also averages 2.3 rebounds and 1.7 assists.
