Premier League relegation race: Standings, results, scores as Leeds make up a point

Sunday's Premier League fixtures sent shock waves through the relegation battle as Leeds United have poked their heads above the red line following a draw against Brighton while Everton weren't able to overcome an early red card to Jarrad Braithwaite as Brentford won at Goodison Park.'

Everton played an eventful match that saw five goals scored by the two sides, but despite leading 2-1, the hosts could not hold on and finished the game with nine men, falling 3-2. All Frank Lampard's team needs is one victory to secure safety but that just got harder with the reds to Braithwaite and Salomon Rondon.'

Things started off well as Dominic Calvert-Lewin found the back of the net only ten minutes as Richarlison's effort deflected off of him prior to going past David Raya. But only 18 minutes in, Everton were reduced to ten following Braithwaite's challenge on Ivan Toney.

It was a slight challenge but happened as he was the last man defending when Toney could've been clear through on goal. It went from bad to worse as Yoane Wissa's cross seemed easy enough to deal with before Seamus Coleman's header to clear it stunned Goodison Park before going past Jordan Pickford for an own goal.'

Everton would get one back before the half to go ahead 2-1 as Richarlison was fouled in the box by Mads Sorensen. His run up was slow but his strike was true as Richarlison put Everton ahead from the spot.

But the second half saw the spiral continue despite Pickford's best efforts to keep things contained. Wissa and Rico Henry scored goals separated by only two minutes to put Brentford ahead. Lampard's last gasp was tossing on Rondon which led to yet another red card from an unnecessary challenge. Rondon went for a two-footed lunging tackle on Henry and was dismissed without any doubt. This hurts Everton's depth heading into their match with Crystal Palace but all is not lost as one victory is all it takes to secure their place in the Premier League next season.

The day began with Burnley dropping their game in hand by a 1-0 scoreline to Tottenham. The Clarets put up a valiant effort withstanding a 21-shot barrage by Spurs, but an Ashley Barnes handball made the difference. Initially, it wasn't given but after a VAR review, it was determined that Barnes' hand was in an unnatural position, sending Harry Kane to the spot. Kane wouldn't miss his chance to put Spurs ahead 1-0.

The Clarets have played fewer games than Leeds United but a repeat of this performance on Thursday versus Aston Villa would likely see Burnley enter the final day in even more trouble. Due to a superior goal difference compared to Leeds United, all they need is a draw to inch back into 17th place while a victory will give them a good shot at safety entering the final matchday.'

For Leeds United, it seemed like more disappointment was incoming for Jesse Marsch's side after Danny Welbeck opened the scoring for Brighton in the 21st minute. Following a Yves Bissoma pass, Welbeck beat Diego Llorente in the box for the opener. But for the first time in three matches, Leeds United were able to keep all their players on the pitch, ensuring that they could fight to the end. Even when the results have been less than stellar under Marsch, one characteristic that this team has kept is their fight which made a difference.'

Pascal Struijk was able to score a big header deep into stoppage time following a cross from Joe Gelhardt that could be just enough to keep Leeds in the Premier League as they're one point ahead of Burnley in 17th place.

They'll still need help as the Clarets have a game in hand but they could enter the final day controlling their own destiny traveling to Brentford. While it has been a trying season with numerous injuries to key players, safety on the final day is within reach for Marsch and his team.'

Here's a look at the relegation standings (as a reminder, the bottom three go down), the remaining schedule for those teams and the players who can help them stay up.

Here are the players who must step up for their teams to survive:

Rodrigo, Leeds United

The Spanish veteran has not had the sharpest of starts to his stint at Leeds, dealing with injuries and inconsistent performances. After scoring seven goals last season, the central attacking midfielder only has six to his name thus far, but he's shown flashes and has come on as of late. He's scored in three of the team's last six with American manager Jesse Marsch now in charge, and in each of those games the team won. Leeds have taken points from five of their last six matches. He's got technical ability and the quality to turn a match at any minute, but he has had a bit of trouble dealing with the speed and physical play of the Premier League.'

Nick Pope, Burnley

A massively underrated goalkeeper, Pope has found his form lately, and the defense has also improved since that shocking 2-0 loss at Norwich in mid April. Burnley have not allowed multiple goals in any of their last four games and they've conceded two goals in their last 364 minutes. Pope will need to be at his best, especially when it comes to being attentive on long shots with Aston Villa (twice), Tottenham and Newcastle to come.'

Richarlison, Everton

Far and away Everton's best player, the Brazilian star may have to go all Carlos Tevez for the Toffees. And by that, I mean that he may have to carry them to safety, much like Tevez did with West Ham in 2006-07. Two points from safety but with a game in hand, his winner against Chelsea on Sunday essentially kept this team in the race for survival. Facing some weak defenses in the next week with Leicester and Watford on the fixture list, this is his chance for the striker to continue to help his club avoid their first ever relegation.'
