D-backs, possible trade bait Peralta visit MarlinsFLMThe Arizona Diamondbacks have left fielder David Peralta back for a key stretch of the season.Arizona opens a four-game road series against the Miami Marlins on Friday, trying to break out of its .500 rut and make a move in the National League wild-card race. However, there is not much time left before Wednesday's trade deadline, and the D-backs can't afford to tread water in Miami against the worst team in the National League.Peralta will help -- perhaps one way or another. He's an important left-handed, middle-of-the-order bat -- he slugged 30 home runs last season -- and he also has been mentioned in the swirling trade rumors around the team. Peralta is under contract through the 2020 season, giving him extra value in the trade market.Peralta, 31, was activated Wednesday from his second stint on the injured list caused by right shoulder inflammation. He grounded out in a pinch-hitting appearance Wednesday, when Baltimore started left-hander John Means, but he should be in the starting lineup Friday against Miami right-hander Sandy Alcantara (4-9, 4.25 ERA)."I'm here, so I'm going to do my best to help the team to win games and then see what's going to happen," Peralta told reporters before Wednesday's game.Peralta is hitting .288 with nine home runs and 44 RBIs in 74 games. He said he came back too soon from his first stay on the injured list -- from May 24-June 2 -- but was smarter in his rehab and recovery this time around."I told them, 'Yeah, I'm ready, I'm ready!' (the first time)," he said. "I just wanted to help the team, and I learned from that mistake. And I was like, 'OK, until then, I'm going to take a little bit of my time to get everything right.' And now, you can see the result, it's feeling better." Alcantara has lost three consecutive decisions and has struggled in two starts since the All-Star break, allowing a combined 10 runs in 11 innings in losses to the New York Mets and Los Angeles Dodgers. The 23-year-old has never faced the Diamondbacks. On the other hand, Arizona ace Zack Greinke has lots of experience against the Marlins -- most of it good. He is 7-0 with a 3.19 ERA in 12 career appearances (11 starts) against the Marlins. He was 2-0 with a 0.66 ERA in two starts vs. Miami last season.Greinke (10-4, 2.93 ERA) is coming off a no-decision against the Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday, when he gave up two runs on six hits in seven innings. He struck out nine and walked one. While the Diamondbacks are weighing trade-deadline options -- buy, sell, stand pat -- the Marlins are one of the few teams in the NL who can be in full-out sell mode. However, some of the veterans who could be moved -- closer Sergio Romo, infielder Neil Walker and outfielder Curtis Granderson -- won't command big returns."I don't think it's a big deal for this club this year," Miami manager Don Mattingly said of the trade deadline. "There have been clubs where a lot of guys have been mentioned, and their names are out there. Guys who are going to be free agents or things like that. This club this year, I think, has been pretty low key." Arizona's Ketel Marte comes in hot. He has had exactly two hits in eight of his past 11 games and is hitting .379 in July after batting .374 in June.--Field Level Media
