Nats turn to Corbin against first-place AtlantaFLMThe Washington Nationals' rotation has been in flux of late, with ace Max Scherzer dealing with back issues and the team using an opener for the first time Saturday when Matt Grace got the nod against the Los Angeles Dodgers.Thankfully for the Nationals, they have been able to count on lefty starter Patrick Corbin, who will get the ball in the first of a three-game series at home Monday against the National League East-leading Atlanta Braves.Corbin (8-5, 3.25 ERA) has enjoyed plenty of success against the Braves, going 5-1 with a 1.84 ERA in 10 games (eight starts) in his career against Atlanta. The .833 winning percentage is his best against any team he has faced more than once.In his last start, Corbin had to wait out a rain delay of one hour, 41 minutes at the start of the second game of a day-night doubleheader against Colorado at home on Wednesday, then threw six shutout innings and got his first win in nearly a month."I had a good mix up there against these guys," Corbin told reporters after the game. "I have seen them a lot. They can do some damage. These last three games, I mean, they are a good lineup. Our whole staff seems to pitch pretty well against them." Corbin will oppose fellow lefty Dallas Keuchel (3-3, 3.50), who is 0-2 with a 4.70 ERA in four starts against Washington. Current Nationals hitters are 41-for-111 (.369) with three homers and an OPS of .974 against Keuchel, whom the Braves signed earlier this summer.Washington second baseman Brian Dozier is 7-for-15 with a homer against the Keuchel.Nationals outfielder Adam Eaton is 5-for-15 against Keuchel. Eaton was ejected in the first inning Sunday after arguing strikes, and Washington manager Dave Martinez was then thrown out coming to Eaton's defense.Washington infielder Howie Kendrick has more at-bats against Keuchel than all otherl Nationals players, and is 9-for-24 with a home run and two RBIs.In his last start Tuesday, Keuchel fanned 12 batters and gave up only two runs on three hits in six innings, but did not figure in the decision as the Braves lost 5-4 to the Kansas City Royals."When you're facing a guy like (Keuchel), you know you've got to be as precise as you can," the Royals' Danny Duffy told reporters after the game. "You don't have a whole lot of leeway." The Braves enter the key series having lost two everyday players to injuries.Outfielder Nick Markakis went on the 10-day injured list on Saturday with a fractured left wrist. He was hit by a pitch on Friday."Six to eight weeks, usually," Braves manager Brian Snitker told reporters of a possible timetable for Markakis. "There's no surgery or anything like that involved, so it's going to be a matter of time to let the bone heal." Shortstop Dansby Swanson also went on the 10-day IL Saturday with a right heel contusion. Snitker told reporters he hopes Swanson can return this coming weekend against the Cincinnati Reds. The Braves failed to complete a sweep in Philadelphia on Sunday, losing 9-4 to the Phillies, while the Nationals avoided a sweep at the hands of the Los Angeles Dodgers with an 11-4 win.Victor Robles, who replaced Eaton following the latter's ejection, had three hits and scored twice in the win while third baseman Anthony Rendon had three hits and drove in three.--Field Level Media
