Twins look to keep teeing off vs. Orioles The Minnesota Twins have given the Baltimore pitching staff fits so far this season. They'll try to continue doing that when hosting the Orioles in a Saturday matinee in Minneapolis. The Twins banged out five solo homers in a 6-1 victory over Baltimore on Friday night. Nelson Cruz hit two, while Eddie Rosario, C. J. Cron and Max Kepler each hit one. Cruz, Rosario and Cron hit back-to-back-to-back homers in the first inning off Orioles starter Alex Cobb.Minnesota now has compiled 16 homers in four games against the Orioles this season. The Twins hit three and then eight more for 11 in a doubleheader sweep of Baltimore last Saturday on the road. They didn't hit any in last Sunday's win in Baltimore.Orioles manager Brandon Hyde said before Friday's game that his team cannot allow Minnesota to turn this series into a home run derby, like last weekend's was in Baltimore. That just didn't work out in the opener, but the Orioles know they've got to slow down the Twins."We just have to limit damage and stay out of the middle of the plate," Hyde said on MASNSports.com. "We made a ton of mistakes, and they hit a lot of homers against us. We are looking to correct that, but this is a playoff-caliber team." Minnesota has won five of its last seven games and has gotten off to a good start this season under new manager Rocco Baldelli. Rosario continued his hot early-season hitting streak -- he's now got 11 homers and 24 RBIs.The Twins now are 10-1 against the Orioles since the start of 2018. They went 6-1 versus Baltimore last year.Minnesota activated pitcher Matt Magill (shoulder tendinitis) from the injured list, and he threw two-thirds of an inning in Friday's win. He walked two and allowed a hit but didn't allow a run."I got a chance to see him a lot early in camp," Baldelli told the media of Magill before Friday's game. "He's the guy I think can impact us in a good way." The Twins will send Jose Berrios (3-1, 2.97) to the mound against Baltimore right-hander Dan Straily (1-1, 8.59). Berrios gave up four runs in six innings and won last Saturday for the Twins during the doubleheader.Berrios now has a career record of 4-0 with a 3.62 ERA in five starts versus Baltimore.Straily gave up three runs on six hits in five innings of his last start, the first game of that doubleheader, but he gained a no-decision. He's 1-0 with a 3.06 career ERA in three starts against the Twins.Hyde said the Orioles are going to keep John Means in the rotation for now while moving David Hess back to the bullpen. Means has been very effective, especially with a newly-developed change-up, as the left-hander has a 3-2 record and a 1.74 ERA. He'll start Monday against the White Sox.Hyde said the Orioles are playing around with the idea of a six-man starting rotation, but that is something that's still being talked about. He also said that Hess likely will be back in the rotation before long.Trey Mancini, Jonathan Villar and Dwight Smith Jr. continue to give the Orioles consistent production on offense. Mancini added three more hits in Friday's loss and raised his average to .349.Villar had two hits and scored the team's only run, driven in on a Smith single in the sixth inning.--Field Level Media
