Cashner returns to Baltimore as Red Sox face OriolesFLMThe Boston Red Sox have been one of the best offensive teams in baseball this season but scored just two runs in Friday's series opener, as the host Orioles rolled to an easy win.But Boston returned to form Saturday by banging out 17 hits and scoring a season-high 17 runs. The Red Sox rolled to a 17-6 victory over the Orioles and will be looking for some more offense in the series finale Sunday afternoon.The Red Sox scored 16 of those runs in four innings midway through the game, including an eight-run fourth inning.Power was a big part of the win, as the Red Sox hit five homers, including two three-run shots from Jackie Bradley Jr., who finished with six RBIs. Mookie Betts also homered, his 15th at Camden Yards in 46 career games.Andrew Cashner will start for Boston after being traded by Baltimore just over a week ago. Cashner (9-4, 4.09 ERA) lost his only start for the Red Sox -- versus Toronto -- but that came after nine days of rest due to the All-Star break.He told MLB.com Saturday that it will be fun to go against his former teammates."It's unique to get to come back so early and see a lot of the faces," Cashner said. "It's not so much weird when you come back as it's nice to see so many familiar faces." Cashner has a 1-1 record with a 2.14 career ERA against Baltimore. He'll be going against Asher Wojciechowski (0-3, 5.74) of the Orioles, who has no record or ERA versus the Red Sox in one relief appearance.Michael Chavis left Saturday's win with back spasms, and Boston officially released Eduardo Nunez on Saturday after designating him for assignment Monday.The Orioles' starting pitching problems continued Saturday as rookie Tom Eshelman gave up nine runs in 3 2/3 innings. Tanner Scott, who was recalled Saturday, threw three scoreless innings.Infielder/outfielder Stevie Wilkerson pitched the final two innings and gave up just one run -- a Sandy Leon homer in the ninth. That was his second outing this month. Wilkerson threw a shutout inning against Tampa Bay on July 12.Wilkerson throwing an effective final two innings really gave the Baltimore bullpen a lift, and manager Brandon Hyde said afterward that he just wasn't sure if the position player would make it through -- but he did."It helped us big time," Hyde told the media. "He pitched two innings in under 20 pitches. He proved last time he could throw strikes, and he did it again tonight." Despite the crooked box score, Anthony Santander and Renato Nunez had good days at the plate for Baltimore. Santander finished 4-for-5 with a homer and was a double short of the cycle.
