Brewers hope to cap sweep of rival CubsFLMThe Milwaukee Brewers will go for a sweep of their three-game series against the visiting Chicago Cubs on Sunday at Miller Park. The Brewers took advantage of the Chicago bullpen for the second straight game on Saturday, rallying from deficits of 2-0 and 3-2 for the win and moving into a tie with the Cubs for second place in the NL Central.Milwaukee right-hander Zach Davies (8-3, 3.17 ERA) looks to rebound on Sunday. He tied his season high when he allowed six earned runs last time out, giving up nine hits in four innings in Tuesday's loss to the Reds. Davis gave up two home runs after having not allowed one since June 25. One came off the bat of Eugenio Suarez."Everybody knows he has really good stuff," Suarez said after that game. "Really good sinker, change-up, cutter, curveball. But today, he threw a lot of sinkers, and we were ready." Davies is 6-5 with a 3.15 ERA in 15 career starts against the Cubs. In 2019, he's 1-0 with a 0.75 ERA in two starts.Cubs left-hander Jose Quintana (8-7, 4.42) has tied a career high with four straight wins. On July 20 he picked up the win despite allowing five runs on eight hits -- including three home runs -- over five innings against the Padres. He struck out seven and walked one.For his career, Quintana is 6-4 with a 2.63 ERA in 13 starts versus Milwaukee, but that includes an 0-2 record and a 10.24 ERA versus the Brewers this season. Quintana is slated to face the Brewers on Sunday and again next weekend in Chicago."They've made that clear that Quintana is going to face us," Brewers manager Craig Counsell told the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. "When we play the Cubs, I assume we're going to face Quintana and another lefty." Keston Hiura hit a two-run walk-off homer against Cubs closer Craig Kimbrel to cap a three-run 10th inning in the Brewers' 5-3 win on Saturday night.Albert Almora, Jr. homered leading off the 10th to give the Cubs a 3-2 lead, but Christian Yelich answered with a homer off Kimbrel leading off the bottom of the inning. Tyler Saladino followed with a walk, and Hiura hit a liner to right for his 11th homer of the season."It's no secret, we really needed those 1/8wins 3/8, and it's nice to be able to find a way. It's a credit to our guys -- nobody has given up, nobody has quit," Yelich told MLB.com."We haven't had the smoothest of sailing, that's pretty well-documented. But we still have a long way to go, and nobody's quitting. We found a way to pull two of those out, and they are great team wins." The Cubs wasted a strong start from Jon Lester, who blanked Milwaukee for seven inningsYelich and Hiura both extended their hitting streaks to 15 games. Hiura is hitting .458 during his streak, while Yelich is hitting .407.Cubs reliever Derek Holland, acquired Friday from San Francisco to serve as a lefty specialist, made his debut, retiring the only batter he faced in the eighth inning."I'm not too worried about a role," Holland told MLB.com. "If I can help this team, that's awesome." --Field Level Media
