Rockies still trying to solve homer-happy Brewers The Colorado Rockies are counting on right-hander German Marquez for the answer to all their recent troubles against the Milwaukee Brewers.Including last season's National League Division Series, the Rockies have now lost four consecutive games against the Brewers and 11 of their last 13 against them, with the most recent coming on Monday in a 5-1 defeat at Milwaukee. Both teams will do it again at Milwaukee on Tuesday, with Marquez (3-1, 2.54 ERA) squaring off against Brewers starter Jhoulys Chacin (2-3, 6.35).The high-powered Brewers offense was in a flow again Monday when Jesus Aguilar delivered his first two home runs of the season. And there is reigning NL MVP Christian Yelich, who is doing it again, matching the major league record for home runs before the start of May with 14.But Yelich did not play Monday as he is day-to-day after tweaking his back during Sunday's game against the New York Mets. He was noncommittal when asked if he might be out beyond Monday."Obviously we're going to be cautious," Brewers manager Craig Counsell told reporters. The Brewers entered Monday's series opener with a National League-leading 54 home runs and were tied for fifth in the National League with 143 total runs scored. Then came two more home runs and five more runs. The Rockies hope that Marquez has the antidote for the Milwaukee offense. The right-hander not only has the lowest road ERA in the NL at 0.41, he has two victories in three outings away from home. He also has 23 strikeouts in those road games over 22 innings.Taking into consideration all games, Marquez has a 2.14 ERA over his last three starts, including a victory over the Washington Nationals at home on Wednesday when he gave up three runs on eight hits over seven innings."The first couple of innings I wasn't 100 percent (and) I don't know why," Marquez said of his last outing. "I didn't get warm. But after that, I (warmed up) and it was good. ... Sometimes that happens. I had to make adjustments and next time it will be better." Marquez is 1-1 with a 5.01 ERA over five career starts against the Brewers with 25 strikeouts over 23 1/3 innings.Chacin is 2-1 with a 3.32 ERA over four career starts against the Rockies. In his only start against Colorado last year, he earned the victory after giving up two runs over five innings on May 10.Chacin is coming off a start Wednesday at St. Louis when he gave up two home runs and four runs over five innings as Colorado fell 5-2 to the Cardinals. The right-hander started the season 2-0 with a 4.22 ERA but is 0-3 over his last four starts with a 7.64 ERA."Besides 1/8Zach 3/8 Davies, nobody has pitched the way they wanted," Chacin said of the Brewers, according to mlb.com. "But I feel we know we can do it. We showed it last year. But last year was last year; we have to show it this year, too." The Brewers have won three of their last four, but that comes after a stretch where they lost seven of eight. The Rockies have lost two consecutive games, but that was after a stretch when they won 10 of 12.--Field Level Media
