He then went out and beat the Oakland A's on March 20 in Tokyo, Japan, allowing four runs (three earned) and seven hits in six innings of the 9-7 win.Gonzales took the mound on Thursday and allowed four runs (three earned) and nine hits in 5 1/3 innings of a 12-4 win against the visiting Boston Red Sox."We're still in the process of figuring out who we are and what we're going to do, but I think right now we have a foundation built where we're going to come and compete, and we're not really listening to expectations," Gonzales told 710 ESPN Seattle. "We're not really seeing who is across the way in the other dugout. ... That's kind of who we are. We're a chip-on-our-shoulder type of team right now." Angels center fielder Mike Trout is 8-for-17 in his career against Gonzales with three doubles and a home run. Los Angeles shortstop Andrelton Simmons is 8-for-18 off Gonzales.Trevor Cahill is scheduled to start for the Angels.Cahill pitched six innings in the season opener on Thursday in Oakland, allowing four runs and six hits in the 4-0 defeat.Cahill is 5-4 in his career against Seattle with 3.40 ERA in 14 starts. He last faced the Mariners on May 22 as a member of the A's and allowed two runs and four hits in seven innings. He did not receive a decision in the 3-2 10-inning loss.Kyle Seager is 5-for-13 in his career off Cahill with two doubles and two home runs, but he underwent hand surgery in mid-March and is expected to be sidelined until at least June. Mariners second baseman Dee Gordon is 7-for-20 with two doubles off Cahill.The Angels lost three of four against the Oakland A's to start the season and scored just one run in the first seven innings in all four games combined."We're not clicking on all cylinders, obviously, offensively," Angels manager Brad Ausmus told reporters after the loss Monday. "It can be tough on pitchers if you're constantly trying to hold a team, so it would be nice to jump on a team early from an offensive standpoint." The Angels have just one home run as a team in four games, compared to 16 through seven games by the Mariners.Gonzales said the Mariners have several players with a lot to prove, whether they're coming back from injury or just joining the organization."A lot of guys are ready to take advantage of that," he said.
