Brewers' Nelson hopes to make Dodgers sweat 1h ago• 3 min read LOS ANGELES -- It is Players Weekend, where alternate uniforms and colorful socks are the norm, while clever nicknames, real or otherwise, go on the back of each shirt. Those uniform tops will ultimately be auctioned for charity and the Milwaukee Brewers' Jimmy Nelson might have a number of contributions after he starts against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday. The back of Nelson's jersey reads "BIG SWEAT," and when he takes the mound Sunday afternoon in Southern California temperatures are expected to soar to 90 degrees, or even higher, with a touch of humidity."Jimmy will be making multiple donations to charity on Sunday," Brewers manager Craig Counsell said, suggesting that "BIG SWEAT" might be forced into multiple costume changes.Adding to his perspiration levels will be an assignment against a productive Dodgers' offense. The Los Angeles bats have helped the club to a 52-14 record at home, easily the best in baseball. In Milwaukee on June 2, Nelson controlled the Dodgers offense with eight scoreless innings. He is a hard-luck 0-2 against Los Angeles in his career, with a 1.33 ERA in 27 innings over four starts.Past success against the Dodgers could help the right-hander with confidence since his last three outings have not been to his standard. Going back to Aug. 11, Nelson has a 9.00 ERA in his last 15 innings, which includes starts against the Reds, Pirates and Giants. Against the Reds on Aug. 11, he gave up 10 runs (nine earned) in just 3 2/3 innings. On Tuesday, though at San Francisco, Nelson was somewhat improved, giving up three runs on seven hits over five innings in an eventual 4-3 victory."His pitching lines have looked a little different recently, but it's really a pitch here, a pitch there to me," Counsell said. "There is not big difference to me there." The Dodgers will counter "BIG SWEAT" with "YU SAN," otherwise known as Yu Darvish. The right-hander will be returning from the disabled list, where he spent 10 days healing form lower back tightness. The Dodgers' concern level for their new prized commodity seems low. The club has used the new 10-day disabled list liberally and they sounded far from concerned when the DL move was announced soon after Darvish left his outing early when facing the Chicago White Sox on Aug 16."I was going to go out, and in between innings I talked to (Clayton) Kershaw and he asked me how does your body feel and I told him I feel something on my back," Darvish said at the time through an interpreter. "And he said, 'We need you really bad in six weeks. That's when we need you the most.' That's what kind of got me and I changed my mind." Six weeks is the postseason, of course, and both Darvish and Kershaw figure to be recovered from back issues by then to help carry the club. Kershaw pitched in a minor league rehab outing Saturday and will rejoin the Dodgers on Friday at San Diego.More will be known about where Darvish stands Sunday. He has never faced the Brewers in his five-year big league career, adding to the mystery about how he will look in his fourth start as a National Leaguer. But as long as Darvish does what the Dodgers know he is capable of doing, they will be pleased."The excitement for us as coaches and players for Yu, there was a lot of energy," Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said upon Darvish's debut with the club.
