Orioles begin final '19 homestand against JaysFLMThe Baltimore Orioles start their final homestand of the season on Tuesday night when they begin a three-game series with the Toronto Blue Jays.Baltimore will play American League East rival Toronto before ending the home part of its 2019 schedule with a three-game weekend against the Seattle Mariners.The Orioles then end the year with six games on the road. The first three at Toronto before closing out the season with a three-game series in Boston.Baltimore is coming off a 5-2 loss in Detroit on Monday. The Orioles had a chance in the ninth inning, loading the bases with two outs against Joe Jimenez, but the right-hander struck out Trey Mancini.Mancini homered earlier in the game but struck out on three pitches in that last at-bat. The loss dropped the Orioles to 49-101, but they passed their win total from last year (47).Baltimore made some off-the-field moves on Monday also, announcing that Matt Blood was coming over from the Texas Rangers to be the Orioles' director of player development.The Orioles made a number of other hirings Monday, and executive vice-president and general manager Mike Elias said it all was part of what the team is trying to do."The reality is there has been a significant amount of new info and new technology that has exploded across baseball in the last five or six years, and we're all doing our best to react to it and position ourselves to it," Elias told MLB.com recently. "There are going to be positions here that have never existed before with the Orioles." Toronto (59-91) had an off day Monday. The Blue Jays have been playing well lately, and were coming off a weekend in which they took two of three from the New York Yankees and two of three from the Boston Red Sox in the series before that.Randal Grichuk has been one of the hottest hitters in baseball lately, especially when it comes to power. He homered twice in Baltimore's 6-4 win over the Yankees on Sunday.Grichuk hit eight homers against New York in 16 games this season, has an eight-game hitting streak and had an extra-base hit in seven of those games with four home runs, according to MLB.com.Grichuk has 28 homers and 71 RBI -- both career highs -- despite batting just .235 this season."Even on a down year, the power's still there," Grichuk told MLB.com. "So that's a positive. I'm not feeling for it or getting out of my swing to take away power, even when I'm struggling. That's a positive." This will be Toronto's final road trip of 2019. After the three games in Baltimore, the Blue Jays head to New York to take on the Yankees in a three-game series.Toronto then closes out the season with six home games -- three versus Baltimore and three against Tampa Bay.In the series opener at Oriole Park Tuesday night, Trent Thornton (5-9, 5.04) will get the start. He is 2-1 with a 2.12 ERA in three career starts versus Baltimore.The Orioles had not announced a starter for the game as of Monday night.--Field Level Media
