The Devils and Blue Jackets reached season highs in scoring in their most recent games. New Jersey recorded an 8-5 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks on Monday, while Columbus hit the seven-goal plateau for the fourth time this season in a 7-5 win over the New York Rangers on Sunday. Thirteen of 18 Columbus skaters had at least one point in the win over the Rangers, which gave the Blue Jackets six wins in their last seven games against Metropolitan Division opponents." It's good to see a lot of guys get on the score sheet (and) feel good about themselves. These are huge points, especially in the Metro," said right wing Cam Atkinson." (We've) played against some of the best teams in the league as of late, and we've found ways to get it done, even if it's not our prettiest. We have to continue to do that leading into the (All-Star) break." The Blue Jackets have dominated the recent history between the clubs, winning 14 of their last 17 games against the Devils. That winning stretch includes two previous meetings this season -- a 2-1 result on Dec. 20, and a 3-0 shutout three days later. Sergei Bobrovsky was in net for both of those games and is probable to start again Tuesday. After missing two games for internal disciplinary reasons, Bobrovsky returned to save 22 of 27 shots against the Rangers. Devils coach John Hynes didn't state whether Keith Kinkaid or rookie MacKenzie Blackwood would be getting the start in Columbus on Tuesday. Blackwood allowed five goals on 37 shots against Chicago and would be starting on consecutive nights for the first time. Kinkaid's previous performance against Columbus could be a factor in Hynes' decision. Kinkaid was the Devils' starting goaltender in the Dec. 23 meeting, getting a quick hook in the second period after allowing all three goals after just 11 shots. New Jersey forward Miles Wood left Monday's game in the third period and didn't return. The Devils didn't have a postgame update on Wood's condition, although he will travel with the team to Columbus. New Jersey figures to have a distinct advantage in power play situations over the Blue Jackets. The Devils entered Monday's action with the second-best penalty kill percentage in the NHL, while Columbus is near the bottom of the standings in power play percentage and power play goals." Guys that have good hockey sense and awareness defensively" is how Hynes described his ideal model of a penalty-killing unit." Sometimes on the penalty kill, you have the structure and you understand what your reads have to be, and there's also an anticipation factor," Hynes said. "We have guys that can anticipate the play, (and) read when there's a breakdown." Artemi Panarin leads the Blue Jackets with 50 points. The winger has been on a roll over his past 11 games, recording 16 points (eight goals, eight assists) in that span.--Field Level Media
