Jake Waters is promoted from quality control staffer to running backs coach at Iowa State

AMES, Iowa (AP) - Jake Waters has been promoted to Iowa State running backs coach after working as a senior offensive quality control staff member the past three years, Cyclones coach Matt Campbell announced Thursday.

Waters, an ISU graduate assistant in 2017, coached tight ends, fullbacks and wide receivers at UTEP over three seasons before he returned to Ames in 2021.

"Jake is a valuable and talented member of our coaching staff and we are excited to see him in this new role," Campbell said. "He has earned this opportunity because of his hard work and the impact he's made during his four seasons with the program. His experience on our staff will make this a seamless transition for him and our team as he moves into this position."

Waters was national junior college offensive player of the year for Iowa Western Community College in 2012 and a two-year starting quarterback at Kansas State. He returned to Iowa Western as volunteer quarterbacks coach for two years before his first stint at Iowa State.
