Lions strengthen defense, agreeing on $27.5 million deal with D.J. Reader, AP source says

The Detroit Lions have strengthened their defensive line, agreeing with defensive tackle D.J. Reader on a two-year contract worth up to $27.5 million, a person familiar with the terms told The Associated Press.

The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity Thursday because the deal hasn't been finalized.

Reader spent the past four seasons with the Bengals after playing his first four with the Texans. The 6-foot-3, 335-pound Reader is a strong run defender along the interior of the defensive line. He has 9 1/2 career sacks.

The Lions advanced to the NFC championship game last season after winning their first division title since 1993.
