Sunday Night Football odds, spread, line: Washington vs. Cowboys prediction, NFL picks from expert who's 27-12

After suffering through a brutal week without 13 players and seven coaches due to COVID-19, the Washington Football Team should get most of them back this week when they take on the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football. Without the aforementioned players and coaches, Washington (6-8) struggled mightily on Tuesday night in a 27-17 loss at Philadelphia. The Cowboys (10-4), meanwhile, find themselves in a battle for the top seed in the NFC after rolling over the New York Giants 21-6 in Week 15. Dallas is looking for the season sweep after winning at Washington 27-20 two weeks ago.

Kickoff from AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, is set for 8:20 p.m. ET. Dallas is a nine-point favorite in the latest Washington vs. Cowboys odds from Caesars Sportsbook, while the over-under for total points scored is set at 46.5. Before you make any Cowboys vs. Washington picks or Sunday Night Football predictions, make sure you check out what SportsLine NFL expert Mike Tierney has to say.

Quarterback Dak Prescott continues to power the Dallas offense and has achieved his second career season with 25 or more touchdown passes (25) and his fourth career year with 3,500 or more passing yards (3,598). Prescott is 4-0 with 11 touchdowns, including nine passing, with zero interceptions for a 118.3 rating in four career home starts against Washington. He will also be looking for his third home game in a row on SNF with a 100 or better QB rating. Last week against the Giants, Prescott was efficient, completing 28-of-37 passes (75.7 percent) for 217 yards and one touchdown for a rating of 98.6.

Also a big part of the Cowboys' success last week was running back Ezekiel Elliott, who rushed for his ninth touchdown of the season. He needs just 123 yards from scrimmage to join Hall of Famer LaDainian Tomlinson as the only players with 1,250 or more yards from scrimmage and eight or more touchdowns in each of their first six seasons. He has 120 or more yards from scrimmage and a rushing touchdown in three of his four career home games against Washington. Elliott also has 933 yards from scrimmage (133.3 per game) and three rushing TDs in seven career Sunday Night Football home games.

Quarterback Taylor Heinicke, who missed last week's game against the Eagles due to COVID-19, is expected back in the lineup on Sunday. Heinicke had a touchdown and an interception in Week 14 against the Cowboys. He needs just 69 passing yards to reach 3,000 yards for the first time in his career, and just one touchdown pass for his first season with 20 or more touchdowns. Heinicke is looking for his third road game in a row with two or more touchdown passes and a 100 or better rating.

Running back Antonio Gibson had six catches and 65 yards from scrimmage, including 26 rushing, with his sixth rushing touchdown of the year last week. He has a career-high 1,122 yards from scrimmage in 2021, and is looking for his third road game in a row with a touchdown. He is one of two NFC running backs - Leonard Fournette being the other - with 50 or more yards from scrimmage in 12 games this season.

For Sunday Night Football, Tierney is leaning over the total, but he also says a critical X-factor makes one side of the spread a must-back. He's sharing what it is, and which side of the Cowboys vs. WFT spread to back, only at SportsLine.
