The regular season will be starting soon, and we are looking forward to seeing who ends up beating the odds this year. Chicago Bears odds aren’t usually very good, sadly, however, this year we could always see a change!

The franchise has been around for more than a century, and they are one of the oldest franchises in the league. They have managed to win 9 championships so far, and have had plenty of very talented players don their uniforms.

So, today, in the spirit of hope for the Bears in the coming season, let us take a look at the 7 most talented Bears players in history.

#1. Walter Payton

Of course, we begin with Walter Payton, who was such an incredible player and charitable man that he earned his award, the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award. This award has been given to whichever play has been the most philanthropic and has had the most community impact since 1999.

He was a Super Bowl champion in 1985, a 1977 NFL MVP, and an 8-time All-Pro player, being inducted into the Hall of Fame back in 1993.

Payton was a kind-hearted soul in his community, and to others, however, on the field when it came to the opposition, he was anything but kind. He made 8 All-pro selections and 9 Pro Bowls in his career, with his best season being in 1977, as he led in rushing yards and rushing TDs.

#2. Sid Luckman

Luckman has to be one of the most well-rounded players we have ever come across in the history of the Bears. He was a 4-time NFL champion, in 1940, 1941, and 1943, and again in 1946. He was an All-Pro 6 times, an 1943 MVP, and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1965.

He was a defensive back, but he was also their quarterback and helped to revolutionize what this position meant. He led the league in passing yards, and in touchdowns on 3 occasions. Luckman was also known for throwing the ball further down the field than a majority of quarterbacks in his era.

#3. Mike Singletary

Most modern fans of football will be more familiar with Singletary as a coach, but he was an incredible defensive player in his time. He was one of the best linebackers in the league in his era. He was a 1985 Super Bowl champion, an 8-time All-Pro, and a 2-time DPOY.

Singletary even won the Defensive Player of the Year award, captaining Chicago’s defenses for a Super Bowl win in 1985. He won DPOY again in 1988 when he also finished 4th in MVP votes too.

He was consistent through the 80s and the 90s in his performance, and was All-pro in every season from ‘84 until ‘91! If he were to play now, he would’ve been a sure thing in NFL sports betting.

#4. Bill George

George was a beast on the defensive line and was one of the best players in the 50s, he was an NFL champion in 1963, a member of the Hall of Fame All-1950s, an 8-time All-Pro, and he was inducted into the Pro Hall of Fame in 1974.

From 1955-1961 he was selected for the ALl-Pro First Team every year. And when he went on to win the NFL Championship with the Bears he was 35, making him one of the final linebackers to get an NFL championship before the Super Bowl was integrated.

#5. Dick Butkus

Butkus was an 8-time Pro Bowler, 6-time All-Pro, and a member of the Hall of Fame All-1960s and All-1970s teams, and he was inducted into the Pro Hall of Fame in 1979.

He was a middle linebacker and one of the best of his era. He finished in the top 6 for MVP voting on 4 occasions and was considered to be a destructive force on the defensive side of the game.

#6. Brian Urlacher

Urlacher was a 5-time All-Pro, member of the HOF All-2000’s, 2005 DPOY, and he was inducted into the Pro Hall of Fame in 2018. He was one of the most highly respected players of the 00s.

He debuted at the turn of the century for the Bears, and it was his first year that saw him named Defensive Rookie of the Year, while he also made the Pro Bowl. He made 5 All-Pro teams and was a Pro Bowler on 6 occasions.

#7. Gale Sayers

Sayers was a 5-time All-pro, a member of the Hall of Fame All-1960s team, a 1965 ROY, and was inducted into the Pro Hall of Fame in 1977. His draft was difficult, graduating from Kansas the Chiefs took him 5th in the AFL draft, but the Bears also drafted him 4th.

He became a legend when he took the Bears Uniform and ended up as Rookie of the Year.

He led the league in rushing yards 2 times. His career started to derail in 1970 and he had to retire at only 28!

Overall

These have been the 7 best players with the Chicago Bears. You can see why each of these players is considered to be legendary, and we are sure that over the years there will be more to come.
