With the cost of living soaring, more people are choosing to entertain at home. For that, houses across the country are being converted into alternate spaces. Around 12 per cent of homeowners are considering repurposing a space in their home for gaming or to turn it into a sports entertainment room. So how can you get it right and ensure you don't waste the space you have?

Concentrate on One Type of Gaming

If you only have one room, unless it is extremely big, then you should concentrate on one type of gaming or sport. This may be console or PC gaming, tabletop gaming, an arcade or a sports theme like table tennis or pool. This lets you focus on setting the right decor and ambience, instead of just throwing everything into the mix to see what sticks.

You will also be limited by space. Large items like snooker tables and air hockey devices take up a lot of room. If you don't have it, consider building external rooms such as garden offices. These are prefabricated buildings that just need a concrete base to sit on and are a cost-effective way to add space to a home.

Build Around a Statement Piece

Once you know what you can fit in, and what games room you want, you can start designing. For this, work out a budget and aim for one statement piece. This will depend upon the type of room you want.

For example, those building video gaming rooms may have a spectacular gaming chair or virtual racing setup. If you want a snooker room, this will obviously be your table. Others may choose fussball tables or arcade machines. It all depends on the function you want.

Those looking to build home card rooms or casinos should look for great tables or even old-style slot machines. Slot games have grown extremely popular over the last few years due to online digital versions bringing them to a new audience. There is also plenty of education online to teach you how to win at slots, which has further increased their popularity. Luckily, the theories are the same on old mechanical machines, which can be bought cheaply and look fantastic. You can even get ones themed with sports such as sking, football and basketball.

Never overlook the value of storage. Nothing will ruin the look of your new entertainment space quicker than wires, leads and other equipment left lying around. Make sure you build adequate storage solutions in and around the room.

Don’t just calculate storage space for what you currently own either. Over time, your collection will grow, especially if you collect tabletop games and accessories. For every full shelf or storage space, make sure there is another that is empty.

You should not be afraid to display items. Collections can really add to the feel of the room, be it gaming miniatures, poker chips or sports jerseys and merchandise. Display cabinets are a great option for high-value pieces.

By following these, you should have the perfect games room planned. With plenty of storage and a space to entertain, you can make staying in the new going out.
