New Jersey Continues to Shed Light on America’s iGaming Future

The numbers for June came in, and it was business as usual for New Jersey’s online casinos, which continued to outperform sports betting. In fact, online casino revenue is up from last year while sports betting revenue declined from June 2025.

June was the Garden State’s second consecutive month exceeding $270 million in revenue and the third time in a four-month span. Jersey’s online casino revenue is just under $1.6 billion for the year, and is on pace to break $3 billion by year’s end. That record-breaking number comes on the heels of $2.39 billion in 2024 and $2.91 billion in 2025.

There was even room for New Jersey to add another online casino brand, Vegas Club Casino, at the end of June.

Jersey is far from the only legal online casino state seeing record-high revenue numbers in 2026. In 2025, America’s seven states with online casinos combined for $252 billion in Q1 revenue. That number jumped to $3.04 billion in 2026 with no new states for assistance.

However, new states are taking notice of the increasing revenue totals stemming from online casino play.

Maine has legalized online casinos, although they haven’t launched yet. Massachusetts, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. have had discussions and proposals centered around legalizing online casinos. The rarity of legal real-money online casino options is seemingly on its way to becoming more commonplace.

Why Jersey is a Strong Predictor

In 2013, Jersey was one of the first three states to legalize online casinos. New Jersey then led the charge for online sports betting, becoming the first state to offer it to its residents post-PASPA. More than half of the country’s states have followed suit.

New Jersey is a leader in iGaming changes and tends to offer the data that paves the way for other states. Looking at online casinos in particular, the market’s maturity and continuous growth are signs that other states are surely taking note of.

There will be regions that never consider legal online casinos, for many different reasons. However, with the way 2026 is trending for the legalized states, such as New Jersey, more states will continue to open the doors for legal online casino options.

What Online Casinos Offer That Sports Betting Doesn’t

Considering how much sports betting is discussed and advertised, it feels like it should be generating more revenue than online casinos. However, that isn’t the case.

Sports betting has a ton of challenges that online casinos do not.

The outcome of games affects sports betting revenue. Sports are seasonal, which affects betting habits, as does team success. There are growing concerns about sports betting’s impact on the integrity of sports, with eroded trust as a natural consequence.

Prediction markets are also cutting into traditional sports betting revenue while providing an option in states where sports betting is still illegal. These sites also offer more markets outside of sports.

Online casinos are reliable. If you’re somewhere legal, you can log in and play whenever you want.

So far, that’s limited to seven states. Yet, looking at New Jersey’s numbers, that number is surely to grow.
