Utah was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Monday as it fell 101-95 to the Los Angeles Lakers. Despite the defeat, Utah got a solid performance out of center Rudy Gobert, who posted a double-double on 19 points and 16 boards in addition to three blocks. Donovan Mitchell took a blow to the head in the first half and began experiencing concussion-like symptoms after the game. He finished with 13 points on 6 of 18 shooting and will be out for Wednesday's game.

Utah is 3-1 straight up in games in which Mitchell does not play and also 2-2 against the spread in those games. Also out for the Jazz is backup center Hassan Whiteside (protocols). Utah has lost five of its last six games but has won four straight versus the Rockets.

Meanwhile, Houston didn't have too much breathing room in its game with the Sacramento Kings on Sunday, but they still walked away with a 118-112 victory. Houston relied on the efforts of power forward Christian Wood, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 14 rebounds, and point guard Kevin Porter, who shot 5-for-9 from beyond the arc and finished with 23 points and seven assists.

Houston plays with the fastest pace in the league but that up-tempo style hasn't helped any on the defensive end. The Rockets rank last in points allowed and defensive efficiency, which isn't helped by them also committing the most turnovers in the league. Houston has just won road victory over a team over .500 this season and that came on Jan. 5 vs. a Wizards team that was one game over .500 entering the contest.

The model has simulated Jazz vs. Rockets 10,000 times and the results are in. We can tell you that the model is leaning Under, and it's also generated a point-spread pick that is hitting in almost 60 percent of simulations. You can only see the pick at SportsTek.
