Indiana rookie Chris Duarte has been somewhat up-and-down during the Pacers' current road swing, but his downs have still provided a decent floor for NBA DFS lineups. Last week against the Clippers and Warriors, he made 20-of-30 shots for 51 total points, 14 rebounds, nine assists and six steals. He finished as the top player at his position on both FanDuel and DraftKings last Thursday following his performance against the Warriors.
In the matchups before and after Golden State, he scored 28 total points in two games against the Lakers and Suns. However, he was in the starting lineup for the Phoenix game on Saturday, and finished with 17 points -- including a 3-for-6 night from beyond the three-point arc. Duarte was good on Saturday, but will he come back on Monday with another showing like he had against the Clippers and Warriors? One of McClure's top NBA DFS picks for Monday is Chicago forward DeMar Derozan, who is listed at $9,100 on DraftKings and $9,000 on FanDuel. His depleted Bulls side couldn't pull out the win on Sunday night against the lowly Orlando Magic, but he still had a strong game. DeRozan dropped a game-high 41 points to go with five rebounds and two steals.
McClure included DeRozan in his picks for Sunday as well, and he was a top-five player at two positions on FanDuel, and the top-scoring power forward in DraftKings' main slate NBA DFS tournaments. On Monday, the Bulls take on an Oklahoma City team that has been a bottom-five Fantasy defense against opposing forwards on both sites. Chicago has yet to play OKC this season, but with San Antonio last year, DeRozan scored 20 points with six rebounds in his lone game against the Thunder.
Another key in McClure's optimal NBA DFS strategy includes rostering Pelicans center Jonas Valanciunas ($8,300 on DraftKings and $7,500 on FanDuel). Since missing a game on New Year's Day (health and safety protocols), Valanciunas has made nine starts and averaged 18 points, 12.1 rebounds and 2.4 assists. In his most recent game against New York last Thursday, he finished around those averages, but also had two blocks and a steal.
In Valanciunas' previous game against Indiana in November, he scored 19 points and finished with 13 rebounds and a block. Over their last three games, the Pacers have given up an average of 58 points in the paint, which is the highest mark in the NBA. In his last four starts, Valanciunas has hit 57.7 of his shots and 35.7 percent of his three-point attempts, but he also comes into tonight well-rested after three days off.
