Yankees look to end Indians' win streak 15m ago• 2 min read NEW YORK -- A pair of pitchers streaking in opposite directions are scheduled to face one another Tuesday night when the New York Yankees host the Cleveland Indians in the middle game of a three-game series at Yankee Stadium. The Yankees' Jaime Garcia (5-8, 4.52 ERA) is lined up to oppose the Indians' Trevor Bauer (13-8, 4.59 ERA).Cleveland took the series opener Monday, when Corey Kluber earned the win by allowing three hits over eight strong innings in a 6-2 victory. The Indians (74-56) have won five straight, during which they have outscored the opposition 39-8. The Yankees (70-60) fell 3 1/2 games behind the Boston Red Sox in the American League East race.Garcia will be looking to earn his first win for the Yankees in his fifth start since he was acquired from the Minnesota Twins on July 30. He didn't factor into the decision Thursday, when he gave up four runs (two earned) over four innings as New York fell to the Detroit Tigers 10-6.Garcia is 0-1 with a 5.95 ERA for the Yankees. He hasn't won since earning the victory in his lone start with the Twins on July 28, which was also the most recent start in which he completed at least six innings.Yankees manager Joe Girardi said Monday that Garcia has fared fine in his first month in New York and that he hopes the southpaw is beginning to settle down from a whirlwind few weeks."This is probably the most consistent his routine has been for a while, so we're hoping that obviously will help him," Girardi said. "It's not like he hasn't given us a chance to win in his starts. He definitely has done that. So we're looking forward to a good start for him (Tuesday that will) get him on a roll." Bauer, meanwhile, will be looking to extend his career-best winning streak to seven decisions. Last Thursday, he allowed four runs over 5 1/3 innings as the Indians beat the Boston Red Sox 13-6.Since his most recent loss on July 16, Bauer is 6-0 with a 2.54 ERA in eight games (seven starts), a stretch in which he has lowered his overall ERA from 5.59 to 4.59.Manager Terry Francona said Monday afternoon improved command is the key to Bauer's resurgence. Bauer has issued one walk per 3.7 strikeouts (52 whiffs, 14 walks over 46 innings) during his winning streak. He gave up a walk every 2.8 strikeouts (105 whiffs, 37 walks) in his first 93 1/3 innings this season."The ability to work ahead, especially with his fastball, and not get to so many deep counts," Francona said. "He still has, at times, but not nearly as much as before. You start getting those 3-2 counts and you've got to make a perfect pitch. Sometimes he does, but when he doesn't, he was paying a pretty big price. He's just been a lot more efficient with his pitches." Garcia lost his lone start against the Indians on Aug. 4, when he allowed six runs (five earned) over 4 2/3 innings in his Yankees debut. Bauer is 2-4 with a 4.62 ERA in seven career starts against the Yankees.
