Opening Day starters back to mound for Orioles, Jays The Baltimore Orioles have been one of the surprise teams of the young season.In full rebuilding mode and fielding a very young and inexperienced team, Baltimore has won three in a row and holds a 3-1 record after four games. The Orioles will try to extend their winning streak when they meet the Blue Jays in Toronto again on Tuesday night.Baltimore is coming off of a 6-5 victory over the Jays on Monday. Orioles starter David Hess threw 6 1/3 no-hit innings before manager Brandon Hyde took him out, and the bullpen stumbled after that, allowing five runs but escaping with the win.The Orioles have said they won't be sitting and waiting for the three-run homer as has been the case for the most of the past few seasons, but they got two more long balls Monday night. That came after they belted three homers Sunday in a 7-5 victory over the New York Yankees.The good start certainly has the team happy, as Trey Mancini said in a TV interview with MASN after Monday's victory."A win's a win," he said. "I'm really glad we got it. It's just been a really good start to the year for us. We're all having a good time." The Orioles hope veteran right-hander Andrew Cashner (0-1, 13.50 ERA) can keep the fun going when he makes his second start of the season on Tuesday. He lost the season opener last Thursday in New York, filling in for right-hander Alex Cobb, who had some groin issues.The Yankees got to Cashner for six runs on six hits in four innings.Cashner has a 1-2 career record versus Toronto with a 3.11 ERA in six starts.Toronto also will be back Tuesday to its Opening Day starter, right-hander Marcus Stroman (0-0, 0.00 ERA).Last Thursday, Stroman took a no-hitter into the sixth inning and blanked the Detroit Tigers for seven innings, allowing just two hits. He struck out seven and walked four in a no-decision, with Tigers eventually pulling out a 2-0 victory.Stroman has a 4-4 career record against the Orioles with a 3.55 ERA in 11 games (10 starts). His strong outing against Detroit got the Toronto rotation rolling, as the Blue Jays starters did not give up a run for the first 24 innings of the season.That stretch ended quickly in the series opener with Baltimore when the Orioles scored four in the first against Sean Reid-Foley, who had been called up from Triple-A Buffalo to replace Clayton Richard (knee). The Orioles took a 6-0 lead before the Jays battled back and got the tying run at third with two outs in the ninth.Richard Bleier finally struck out Lourdes Gurriel Jr. for his first career save.The Blue Jays are sporting a .180 batting average through five games."I'm not going to defend our offense right now, but I know that we're going to hit," Toronto manager Charlie Montoyo said, according to Postmedia. "That's what they do. They have a past and they have a record. We're just not hitting right now." Blue Jays shortstop Freddy Galvis, who was only able to only pinch-hit Sunday because of a sore back, returned to the starting lineup Monday, going 1-for-3 while hitting a solo homer and playing in his 330th straight game.
